A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Grameen Phone Limited (GP) to continue online education activities in public and private universities in the wake of the Corona epidemic. Under the agreement, Grameen Phone will provide internet data packs to students and faculty of public and private universities at affordable prices for online education activities. Under this, university teachers and students will get mobile internet facility at a relatively low price.
Thursday (November 12) at a meeting held at the UGC Secretary of the Commission (additional responsibilities) said. Ferdous Zaman and Grameen Phone CBO Kazi Mahbub signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
UGC Chairman Prof. Kazi Shahidullah presided over the meeting held on the Zoom platform. Thanking Grameen Phone for coming forward with this initiative, the UGC Chairman said that the participation of Grameen Phone in the field of higher education in times of crisis is a matter of time. Through this, an important need of the present time will be met by the students studying in higher education. It will play a positive role in the online education activities of public and private universities. Students will be more focused on online learning. He expressed hope that the bond between UGC and Grameen Phone would not end here but that the country’s largest telecom operator would come forward in the future to develop higher education.
UGC member Professor. Dil Afroza Begum, Professor. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Professor. Many including Muhammad Alamgir spoke at the signing ceremony. In addition, Dr. Shamsul Arefin, Director, Department of Public Relations and Information, UGC, Mohammad Tourit, CEO, BDiren and senior Grameen Phone senior officials participated in the event, among others.
Earlier, when all the mobile operators were requested to provide internet service at nominal cost to the university students to continue their online education activities, only Teletalk Bangladesh Limited responded to that call.
